Transitioning back to normal life.
Making the Transition
Residents involved in our transitional housing program are placed in an apartment under a subsidized, gradual rent increase program. While residents participate in this 18 month – 2 year program, they continue to participate in Open House Ministries’ programs. The Vancouver Housing Administration partners with Open House Ministries by providing a transitional apartment complex only two blocks away from the shelter.
Post Shelter Support
Providing transitional support is a crucial piece of helping residents find success in a post-shelter situation. Families who have had poor rental histories, bad debt, and legal problems have trouble finding housing even when they have made significant progress. Gaining employment, building a savings account, and finding a new outlook on life are a great start, but don’t necessarily erase past mistakes. Our transitional housing program is one solution for helping residents find their way back to a normal, independent life.
