Adopt-a-Room Program

Open House Ministries serves 107 people per night anywhere from 52-63 can be children on any given night, 365 days per year. The average family stays at our shelter for 4-6 months. Depending on the circumstance some families need more time to transition back to a normal life. The shelter provides family suites, and outdoor play area, a classroom/meeting room, a central lounge on each floor and laundry facilities. Adults receive counseling, job assistance, financing classes, G.E.D classes and children attend area schools.

We take donations 8am-8pm 7 days a week.

Adopt-a-Room Program

“Everything but the mint on the pillow…”

In 1996, during the building of our house, several generous groups stepped forward to sponsor and furnish rooms. This was the beginning of our “Adopt-a-Room” program. As a family completed the program and moved on from the shelter, the room sponsor would step in to help us make the room feel like home for the next family.

Today, the program continues. When anew family moves into the shelter they are welcomed into a inviting space with everything they need for daily living as they set out to regain their independence and their lives.

We believe that if we present nicely furnished, clean living space to our resident, they will take ownership of their room and have a greater respect for the home and the opportunity they have been given.

What to expect when you adopt a room…

As an Adopt-a-Room sponsor, you will be assigned one of the 31 self-contained apartment units in our facility and will be given a list of essentials to serve as a guideline for your sponsorship.

When a family moved out of the shelter, you will be notified by our volunteer coordinator.  At this time, we ask that you come to the shelter and prepare your room for the arriving family. As a sponsor, we want you to enjoy the experience of helping meet the basic requirements of a family in need. We encourage you to put a personal touch on the room t make it feel like a home.
