Open House Ministries' Board Members are an important part of our shelter program; they work together to set policy, evaluate and update mission goals, and to support Open House Ministries staff in strategic planning and daily operations.

Claudia Dalton
Open House Ministries: Board President
Claudia served as the director of the Foster Grandparent Program for 19 years. She has also served on local and national boards and committees in the non-profit sector. Claudia is an experienced trainer and presenter who has received several awards, including AVA’s Emerald Award for service to the profession of volunteerism. She is a member of Liberty Bible Church of the Nazarene and is committed to bringing the love of Christ to our community.

Evan Hull
Open House Ministries: Board Vice President
Evan is a local attorney, practicing law in the areas of wills, probate, powers of attorney, real estate, landlord/tenant, family law, and personal injury. Evan is on the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Methodist Foundation and the Chinook Trail Association. He has been involved at Open House Ministries for many years and also volunteers at Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center. Evan is a passionate member of our community who supports medical clinics, housing, and education here and in Africa.

Brian Gigstad
Open House Ministries: Board Secretary
Brian is employed with the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) as a surveyor. He serves as Missions Director for Calvary Community Church here in Vancouver and is passionate about reaching out to others around the world. He also serves on the board of New Beginnings, a home for pregnant, homeless teenagers. Previously, Brian and his wife, Rhoda, served as a shepherding home for Legacy of Life (also a home for pregnant, homeless teenagers). As a shepherding home, they opened their own home to provide transitional support for a mother and her children following their stay at Legacy.

Lee Loomis
Open House Ministries: Board Treasurer
Lee and his wife, Sharon, moved to Clark County in 1991 from Central Oregon. After completing 5 years active duty in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era, the next 25 were directed toward a career in health care management. Since retirement, Lee has become involved in non-profit organizations including Share House, LVHA, and SCORE (an organization sponsored by the Small Business Administration). Lee and Sharon are members of Columbia Presbyterian Church. Lee became involved in Open House Ministries because he believes that it is an organization of dedicated staff members who truly change lives for the better. Open House Ministries' ability to contribute to the community apart from government funds and its foundation on Christian principles are also important factors for his commitment to the shelter.

Michael J. Bacon:
Open House Minstries: Board Member
Mike attended Santa Clara Universitywhere he earned a Bacheolor of Science in Commerce degree. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the United Staes Air Force. He served for four yers, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Hey then began a thirty-five year management career in the pulp and paper industry. He retired from the Weyerhaeuser Company in 2003. Mike and his wife Sally then relocated to Camas. Since that time he has been actively involved in the Oregon Angel Fund, the Service Corps of Retired Execuitives, and Loaves and Fishes. Mike joined the OHM Board in 2011 because he was impressed with the ministry and wanted to become more actively involved. Mike and his wife attend Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in North Portland.

Wayne Garlington
Open House Ministries: Board Member
Wayne moved to Vancouver 20 years ago to pastor youth at Liberty Bible Church. During that time, Wayne started his own business. As business grew, Wayne and his business partner devoted time to the shelter because they believed in its mission. The business provided employment opportunities to Open House Ministries' residents through our Work Development Program. Wayne's wife, Treva, volunteers at the shelter by serving on the special events committee and providing chaperone and transportation assistance for outings.

Dan Harris, PhD
Open House Ministries: Board Member
Dan is a retired Emeritus Professor of Business Management at Seattle Pacific University and credits his involvement with Open House Ministries to his belief that we live in a caring community. We are working together to help resolve the problems of the mental, physical, and spiritual health of the homeless in our community. Dan's wife, Phyllis, is a retired King County employee who served in administrative capacities in the prosecutor's office, Seattle Office of the Governor, and finally, the Washington State Patrol. Dan and Phyllis are active members of Columbia Presbyterian Church and share their concern for the homeless in our community.

Joanne Kendall
Open House Ministries: Board Member and Open House Ministries Founder
Joanne and her late husband, Bob Kendall, are among Open House Ministries' original founders. Since the shelter's inception, Joanne has dedicated herself to informing the community about the shelter's programs. Joanne regularly volunteers at the shelter, and loves to personally deliver toys to the children.

Mark Maggiora
Open House Ministries: Board Member
Mark is employed as Executive Director of Americans Building Community, Inc. During the past 30 years, Mark has served on numerous boards and commissions devoted to community improvement, well-being, and effective service delivery. He has also served 29 years as a volunteer ski-patroller at Mt. Bachelor. Mark and his wife, Patti, serve in leadership roles at Memorial Lutheran Church. They state that Open House Ministries Family Shelter provides the fundamental building blocks in the process of helping people to become the contribution to the world that they were called to be. They teach the family how to fish!

Tim Peters
Open House Ministries: Board Member
Tim and his family have lived in Clark County for 14 years. During that time Tim has been active in the local community, involved in youth sports activities and school volunteer organizations. Tim has been a long-time supporter of Open House Ministries, drawn to the organization because of its faith-based mission and emphasis on serving families in the local community. His business experience includes senior management positions in finance and regulatory/government affairs. Tim and his wife, Kris, attend Summit View Church.
